Hi,
love to hear your suggestion especially from those Ex K&K phono and Maxx user?
I plan to stay with tube type plus SUT as well.
TIA
Follow Ups:
Not a K&K user but I've had a few phono stages, SUTs and cartridges. First you might consider a different SUT than the Lundahl LL1931 (which I believe K&K uses) - that alone could give you a very different sound, and could be especially satisfying if you're looking for a more fleshy, weighty tone. E.g. Bob's Devices Sky, or the EAR MC-3 / MC-4 SUT. I have the LL1931 built into my VAC Renaissance SE phono stage and I definitely prefer the Sky & EAR boxes (bypassing the LL1931 via MM mode). Speaking of which, the built-in MM phono stage options for the VAC full-function preamps sound fantastic (3 tube is good, 6 tube is better), if you're looking to go that route and can score a good used deal.Second, I'm dying to try out the new Hagerman Trumpet MC that Jim Hagerman should be releasing very soon, at (I expect) a very appealing price point given much simplified casework and PSU - following the trend of Bugle3, Cornet3, Piccolo2. It will have a balanced JFET input stage that gives better loading & gain flexibility than almost any SUT box. I'm not sure if the JFET stage is bypassable, but it has a unity gain mode for MM and all those loading options. I had an old Trumpet that sounded great, but was MM only. I'm thinking the new Trumpet could fill my need for MC and MI cartridges that aren't ideal for use with a SUT (keeping the VAC Renaissance SE, which is wonderful, for Koetsu etc).
Finally, the Don Sachs stuff gets a lot of love lately, and looks very cool. I haven't tried them myself but I'd definitely be curious in your shoes!

I highly recommend the Don Sachs Phono 1. I have no affiliation with him. To my ears, it is excellent and I am currently using it in my home system with a SUT and Koetsu Rosewood Signature Platinum cartridge.
+1 for Don Sachs phono stage. I use one of Bob's Sky SUTs in front of Don's phono stage, and I probably won't change this setup. Very satisfied.
If you are into a DIY build, I'd strongly recommend the build on HFH. A friend and I built two very slightly different versions and they easily run with my Maxxed-Out phono stage. Fun build with the PS in one chassis and the guts in another. Cost was about $1500.

The bottom two green jobs.
I quickly looked at your system, you are big on vinyl. Very nice.
You are using Maxx phono, so if your diy built phono is sitting side by side with Maxx, it must be quite special.
yes, I also diy.
Thank you for your link.
What is the model number of your sowter SUT. I had ordered one, 1:20, OCC wire version, I placed my order three months ago, I am still waiting.
cheers
Email Brian regarding you're SUT's. He may be able to hustle things along. I found the hold-up is usually our very own customs department where they can languish for many weeks.
Here is a couple of You Tube videos of my system.

love the paint job of your amp. It remains me Shindo's work.
If you haven't already, send it back to Kevin to get all the upgrades. What you have now is a very good phono stage. The maxxed out version will be hard to beat.

my carts work well with my phono and SUT, I simply want to add a second phono to my system. I built the K&K SE phono kit when it was released, long before Maxx, vinyl one, I still love it.
No suggestions, I just want to say that I've had my Maxx'ed Out unit for 12 years now, love it, and will probably keep it for the rest of my life.

could it be your cartridge may not be the right fit for your SUT or you don't have the loading set correctly?
What are you looking for in terms of a sound difference? More dynamics? For that I'd recommend either an EAR 324 or a used ASR Basis Exclusive. If you like the balance of sound you've got now, I'd get a Herron VTPH-2A. It's awesome and you can find them used for a reasonable price. If you can spend more, I'd find a used Lamm LP2 or LP2.1. They sometimes pop up around $4-5k. I've had/heard a lot of phono preamps and the Lamm is the best I've ever heard, not counting stuff that costs $25k.
OP wants to stay with tubes and SUT. The EAR 324 is (surprise) transistor.
However there is a new tube phonstage design from Tim de P , the PhonoBox. Getting rave reviews as per the link.
The Lamm phonostages? I agree, the best I have heard , a wonderful time recalled when a friend was lent one for a week.

Do you have the SUT already?
