So the guy who USED to sell something only available in Australia isn't here anymore (maybe not anywhere, as it's been a long time since I've cleaned records).
VPI 16.? is out of storage as are all of my 3,000 or so vinyl records and...
Anyone have any recommendations for home brew record cleaning solutions?
Dos and don'ts?
Mostly dollar bin and up, used classical, nothing worth a ton. Used the stuff that came with the VPI but he only sells 'concentrate' which cleans nothing. :-(
Will pay for a gallon jug of something decent or mix my own.
Have access to de-ionized water, so that's now trouble.
TIA and look forward to any 'constructive' replies. ;-)
Follow Ups:
I mixed up some Home Brew Jungle Juice Record Cleaner, Uncle Electrovice's Special Dolphin-Safe Recipe: 1 Quart = 3 cups highly deionoized/filtered water from the local health food store machine + 1 cup finest drugstore 91% isopropyl alcohol (speak to your pharmacist!) + 2 drops Triton, shaken, not stirred. It is very light on the Triton, based on my studies of VA archives and it seems to work OK that way. It actually is working really well right now, using my "vintage" carbon-fiber cleaning pad for everyday. At about $1 / quart- dealio! My wife uses it with microfiber towels on eyeglasses, all Plexiglas things, phones, and video screens-- god knows what else.
Yes friends!! It slices! It dices! It glows in the dark!
I purchased a lifetime supply of Super Vinyl Wash, the best one step cleaning solution I've used. That and my VinylZyme enzyme cleaner should do me fine.

I used l'art du son concentrate for years before I got an ultrasonic machine. Really works great.
I've been using this for years with no concerns. Does a fine job cleaning records with either of my VPI 16.5's.
To a clean 1 gallon jug add
16 oz alcohol (90% concentrate) I have varied this to 32 ounces for especially dirty records
2-3 drops photo-flo
Top off with DI or distilled water
Shake solution for about 60 seconds.
As a nostalgic touch I use an old 8 ounce Discwasher Fluid bottle to apply it.
Prior to applying the solution the record is cleaned with a Nitty Gritty brush on a VPI 16.5, 1-2 rotations.Record is then cleaned with this solution on a VPI, 3 rotations with a VPI brush, followed by 3-4 rotations with a MoFi Cleaning pad.
Some are known to add a drop or two of Dawn dish detergent, I do not as my concern is any residue that may be left on the record surface.
After the initial cleaning the record is rinsed (fine mist applied by a spray bottle) with pure DI or distilled water. The rinse is then removed and the record dried with a VPI 16.5.
I have cleaned more than 6,000 LPs with this comination, no regrets.
FWIW, I've had great results with the VPI concentrate.

The article is about ultrasonic cleaning, but the cleaning solution can be used with any mechanical procedure.
on the subject here's the most thorough coverage of it I have ever seen. Thread commentary started by a former biochemist and audiophile (guest110), comments by at least one other chemist, and also lots, and lots of stupid stuff some people are doing. I'll go with the chemists.Fascinating reading as you while away your time during the pandemic!

I make my own record cleaning solution similar to fstein 's solution. Read my post at the link below:
1 part 70% isopropyl alcohol
1 part distilled water
Triton X 100 a few drops
Sorry the above is for hand-cleaning with a micofibre cloth. For my ultrasonic machine I use Distilled water + a few drops of triton X 100 to which I add 2-4 oz of 70% isopropyl alcohol
Maybe it could be used for covid-19 too.
