I'm 69. My first decent turntable was a Dual 1019. It was part of a system I got around 1966 with the proceeds of an insurance check for my partially-restored 1956 Chevy that was stolen.
I'm sure I followed the instructions when I installed the Shure V15- Type III improved cartridge then. It didn't seem so complicated.
Now with all the technical info, tools available, and terms (VTA, SRA, VTF, azimuth, zenith, stylus overhang, anti-skating force, cartridge loading, resonance frequency, crosstalk, etc.) it seems more complicated, but I'm still ok, I think.
Follow Ups:
did you ever find the car? Also wondering why/how a '56 needs to already be restored in 1966? I think back to the 80's when the 50's seemed like such a long time ago, and now the 80's are that to today! Maybe because the 50's were before I existed and I had no link to it.
When the policeman drove me around the mall parking lot to look for it he said, " Gee, that car sounds really nice. I'd like one like that". Sheesh! My car was just stolen! Now that I think about it, it was 1967 or 8. The car was in ok shape, but I put a 350hp/350 Vette engine in it and redid the exhaust, the interior, and suspension, and was working on more.
Friends said, "Barry, what are you going to do for fun? You can't work on your stereo." I've been doing just that ever since I got my first system.
