I recently purchased a Benz Ruby 3 that has just been re-tipped. I just mounted it 2 days ago and haven't had much time for critical listening. Of course, over the next month I will dive deep into its attributes. I have always wanted this cartridge and the time was right to grab this beauty.I'm running it into an AcousTech Premium PH1 with opamp upgrades>>>Audable Illusions M3A>>>>>>>Rogue Audio M120's>>>>>>>2 MK 150 subs>>>>>>JMLabs Micro Utopia's.
Initial thoughts are good but longer term and deeper listening needs to follow.
I'm tracking it at 2 grams, 47K and squared. Any experienced user have any suggestions on how to get the most out of this cartridge welcomed!
Here are 2 shots of it doing its business.

Other than playing with the tracking force and loading after about 50 hours or so, you're pretty much done. I have a Benz Micro Ebony L using an 10:1 SUT into a ARC PH3SE giving an effective load of 470ohms and that works for my system. What was the turnaround time for the retip?
It looks to me from other pictures of the Benz Micro Ruby 3 that you are using a headshell weight with it. If I am right in my guess that the arm is an Audiomods Series 5 Micrometer then the cart should be a good match without any assistance. The combination should have a resonance of roughly 9Hz. Given that the question of arm effective mass is, I admit, open to question as the counterweight has user adjustable mass, even though the effective mass is variable between 9 and 11 g the 9Hz figure is still in the ballpark.
I would be interested in why you feel that the weight is necessary.

Since I have used this shim with my other Benz cartridges, Glider, MO.09 and Ace, I didn't even try this cartridge without it. I'll have to remove it and give it a whirl.
It is a carbon fiber shim that I made, which weighs in at around 1.5 grams. I like the sound that the carbon provides between the cartridge and the headshell and it also allows for more room to play with VTA.
The Benz Ruby 3 is a very nice cartridge. Who did the re-tip? I see you are running your Ruby wide open at 47K, have you tried the recommended 400 ohm load?
I don't have a 400 ohm resistor but I do have 500 ohms. When I place the 500 ohm in there is less shimmer with cymbals and over all air. 800 ohms is better but, at this time I keep going back to 47k.
Admittedly. I have been listening mostly through headphones due to my family sleeping. I'll get a better feel once I can get more chair time in.
Andy at the needle clinic did the retip.
Yes, I tried 500 and 800. Small difference at 500. I like the top end better at 47 k and no problem with sibilances. I'll experiment, though, over the next few weeks.
