Here is Chandos'response to my query:
Dear Sir,
This is definitely a single LP of both works.
Part of the Holst Planets is on the other side with the Strauss to equalise the sides .
Kind regards
The Chandos Team
You know it's impossible, I know it's impossible. I feel like ordering a copy just to find out.
Follow Ups:
If they compress the dynamic range enough, then they could fit 80 mins onto a single record. I have a few LPs which run to 70 mins or more.
But what would be the point in doing that since it would spoil the recording?

Although not sure what the content consists of.
That's pretty incredible. If they can put 80 minutes of music on one lp and still preserve the dynamics, it'll be one for Guinness.
" still preserve the dynamics,"
Given the bass content ( wow, those organ pedal notes) and dynamic range of the original recording this has to be impossible.
Chandos have not produced LPs for decades until recently. Now vinyl is fashionable and is selling well. So I think that what we have is a typical case of a record company jumping on a bandwagon but neither understanding the market's requirements nor exactly what they are doing. People are buying LPs because they think that they sound better than the other media, not just because they are vinyl. In this case buy the SACD or download the hi-rez file would be my advice.
