The movie has always been a favorite and the soundtrack is excellent...both as an accompaniment to the film and also as a standalone album.
Iirc, Lalo Schifrin was not the original choice to score the film...think it was Quincy Jones, but he was or became unavailable for some reason and Schifrin took his place...the rest, as they say, is history.
...know that Quincy had been slated for this soundtrack. He was hot and very much in demand those days. I can't imagine better music than what Lalo came up with though.
