...to me for appreciating vinyl and music. An acquaintance who knows of my vinyl habit invited me to assume ownership of her 500 LPs and audio system. There is a dust cover that I need to clean up but the turntable (DENON DP-51F) seems to be alright. The LPs range from folk to cello to sitar, some jazz and meditation music. Included is a Discwasher brush, MARANTZ receiver, a TEAC CD player, TERK FM antenna and a Pioneer double cassette. I'm surrounded by enablers! NO! Please don't throw me into the vinyl brier patch!

Great gifts!
Watch out for the step stool under the amp, step on it wrong and shatters into little pieces and you will go flying. I know from experience.

Thanks for the warning. I guess you get what you pay for.

I can tell that your post is a cry for help. Too many albums, too much equipment. I understand. The best thing to do is just pack it all up and send it to me. I'm here to help in your time of need. Except for the meditation music.
That is a very good friend. Did she say why she was giving them away?
The digital thing is much easier for her so the analog has been much sidelined. She has also had some health issues that make analog less of a factor in her life. Family members have taken what vinyl they wanted (little) and expressed no interest in the audio system.
My friend also volunteers at a local daycare that holds fundraising fleas twice a year and she knows me from a decade or more of being the first to arrive for the vinyl every time. Flea sales are often a social thing for me and we would always talk about music, politics and life. She had been threatening to share her analog with me for some time and that time arrived this week.
Bottom line is everyone that knows me knows what will bring a smile to my face.

Your friend's turntable isn't a bad sounding unit, despite the sorta' gimmicky construction. The limiting factor is probably the arm-- I never really trust the servotracer system, although I've seen the guts and they look pretty well designed. I was gifted one of these and set it up for my Boss (so they're at least good enough for the Boss...) I chose an AT95e, and it sounded sweet and detailed, made no bad noises, it was a good match. It felt like any cart over around $50 was overkill for the arm. The table has nice solid PRAT and a very low level of noise. I charged the boss $220 for it a year ago.
THe records are the thing! How nice that was of her.
A good friend indeed. I offered to sell it for her but she insisted that it, and the LPs and stereo, go to someone who would appreciate them and she was convinced that person is me.
I don't know what the cartridge is as I have not detached it. She said it was new meaning, I think, that it's pretty much unused.
I'm lucky that I have a good network of friends and acquaintances.

....you need more friends. :)

Dayam! Not bad at all. In fact, real good.
Guess she kept her speakers, ehh?

She is waiting for me to pick up the speakers. I don't know what they are because she painted them. She is an artist and she did an incredible job. I'll post pics when when I get them.
