Unlike some folks around here, I am partial to the late 50s, early 60s Columbias. This new pressing is dead quiet and sounds quite good. I don't have an original to compare but I'm a happy camper.

I agree, this is a wonderful recording and performance.
Excellent performance, top one or two of the about 10 performances that I own. Check the Karajan/Ferras v/BPO for another one.
The Columbia Symphony performances and recordings feature a lot of bass, maybe too much.
I have the original 6 eye and Odyssey (good reissue) and a CD. Not SACD. Gave away a pristine superb Odyssey reissued LP.
I haven't experienced excessive bass on Columbia, but have noticed a higher bass level on London/Decca and of course, on the digital Telarcs. My copy is a two-eye Columbia. I also have Walter's performances of the Brahms symphonies and several Bruckner symphonies. All produced/engineered by John McLure (if I remember his name correctly). I like his style of recording, although many complain that the mics are set too close to the instruments. As a musician myself, I prefer the "close" sound that is similar to that experienced when performing.
Enjoy,
