Does anyone have this motor controller/tachometer combo they'd be willing to sell? What alternatives are out there? I can't find anything that provides actionable feedback to the power supply. Failing the active feedback, I know there's VPI SDS, now being decommissioned, the new ADS, an upcoming Super ADS with read-only tach, the Walker controller. I'd need something powerful enough for the 7.5 watt draw for my VPI 300 rpm motor.

Happy listening.

I'm glad I have the Eagle/Roadrunner combo but if I was in the market for a motor controller I would probably look for a used SDS if I couldn't find the Phoenix combo. I heard that they are identical in sound quality.
In a direct comparison, I could not hear a difference with my tnthr6 hotrod. The tach indicated that the Phoenix was more accurate in the third place, but I could not tell anything. It is rim-drive, so that may have made a difference.

This from Bill (Phoenix Engineering) in an ADS Owners thread since shutterd on the VPI forums...
"There will soon be a low cost DIY kit available that makes what you're doing look like a crank up gramophone."
No idea what this referes to but maybe there's a DIY PS kit coming?
I have the ADS & returned it to service the transformer noise issue. It's still audible at close range but not nearly as loud as originally received. PE closed shop before I had a chance to try their equipment and the ADS was the only remaining option for my Prime TT.

Even though I didn't appreciate his tone, I always appreciate DIY projects whether we (VPI team) agree with it or not. After all, that is how VPI started as a DIY dream in someone's basement.
Hope it is OK to post a thread from DIYaudio -
This is as close to a kit as I suspect you will see.
Doesn't look too complicated.
It is not an Eagle, this was made clear by Pyramid, but I bet it is real close.
I am grateful to say I have an Eagle.
If Bill Carlin (of Phoenix Eng) got out of the business because of its inherent aggravations, I would think he will like the customer feedback derived from selling a DIY kit to audiophiles even less.
