I recently turned 64 (! How the hell did that happen?) and one of my B-Day presents from my wife was the new George Harrison box, which contains all of his LPs - well you won't find the recordings he made with that little-known group prior to "All Things Must Pass", nor the Concert for Bangladesh, nor the Traveling Wilburys, and also not the bootleg that I have a copy of, but EVERYTHING else is there, including some I hadn't heard of before.
This is a beautiful set, done with much love - looks like Dhanni Harrison was closely involved. The box cover has a hologram of George that alternates between one of his Beatle pictures and a later one (looks like 70s), and the box itself is a massive piece of construction. Inside is a box of what looks like a master tape from a session, and inside contains two picture discs. The LPs are all 180 gram, and packaged in lined inserts, even though the original paper inserts with lyrics and song info are included.
I haven't played that many yet - I started with All Things Must Pass. I love the songs on this, but I have always been disappointed with the Spectorized sound - to me, it sounds muddy. And while I feel these may be the best sounding version of ATMP that I've heard, it still sounds overly reverberant and processed to me. My wife commented that it feels like there is a screen. Phil Spector may have been right for the Ronnettes, but IMO not for George Harrison (nor the Beatles - I have a HUGE preference for Let It Be-Naked over the original Spector version).
We followed All Things Must Pass with Dark Horse, and the difference was immediate. Dark Horse is a far more open sounding recording - produced by #1 Beatle fan Jeff Lynne, and is one of my own favorites.
At that point I got carried away and decided to pull out my box set of Traveling Wilburys - hearing Dark Horse made me want to hear the Wilburys. Volume I is truly one of the greatest things ever done in the field of popular/rock music, and George is a major contributor. One of the cool things about the box set is that it includes extended versions of Handle Me with Care, and End of the Line - both great songs.
Anyway, this is a heckuva gift to receive - looking forward to hearing the rest. And yes, I did play Sgt. Pepper on my birthday, and yes, I do have a pre-order in for the remixed stereo version coming out in a few weeks.
Does anyone besides me think that it has never been better to be living in the vinyl world?
Follow Ups:
I already have too many of George's LPs to justify me buying the box, but there's a few I've never heard in their entirety (Brainwashed, Electronic Sound, and Live in Japan) which do make it tempting.
I completely agree with you regarding Phil Spector's "Wall Of Mud", which was meant to make The Ronnettes sound good on AM radio, but not The Beatles or later Harrison or Lennon sound good on a decent system. It just goes to show you that the Beatles had their hero worship too, believing in Spector's legend, rather than what their ears should have been telling them.
I'm curious about your "By George" bootleg. What's on it?
Lastly, a belated Happy Birthday, and hang on to that wife of yours. She sounds like a keeper!
First, I think you would find all of the LPs you don't have available as singles - check out Elusive Disc, for example.
Secondly, how did we start to use the word "track" with LPs? Anyway:
Side 1 - label says "Ring Out the Old"
Miss O'Dell
Deep blue
I Don't Care Anymore
Awaiting on You All
I Still Don't Care Anymore
Dark Horse
Here Comes the Sun
Homeward Bound
Far East Man
Side 2 - label says "Ring In the New"
Flying Hour
Lay His Head
Sat Singing
Tear of the World
Only a Dream Away
I haven't heard this in a long time - I recall being disappointed in it.
Some of those I've heard, some not.
I'm guessing "Homeward Bound" may be taken off the TV (link below), when George and Paul Simon sang a couple of duets on Saturday Night Live, but that's obviously only a guess.

Thanks for taking the time to type out the track (and I don't know why they're called "tracks" either) listings. Much appreciated!
.....produced for Splinter.
ATMP is a wonder and remains one.
Is Brainwashed in that set?
It's a wonderful final recording that GH left us.
I was partial to 33.33 when it was released but last I listened to it it sounded quite dated.
GH didn't do himself any great favor getting so involved in the L.A. music scene.
Then again last I listened to LITMW it sounded much better than I remembered.
ENJOY your George!
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
And Brainwashed is part of the set.
All things Must Pass is one of my top ten records. I don't care for the production either some of it sound like a total cluster f%^K but the songs are great enough to cut through. He released a box cd of ATMP about ten years ago where he tried to un-Spector it I don't remember how it sounded, I lost my copy years ago. I always thought his song writing was far superior to the other Beatles and that's why they only let him contribute one song per album.
Enjoy you own personal George Fest.

So the LP "Early Takes" is not included in this set, nor is George Fest (which isn't George, of course -tribute done by Dhanni) nor Concert for George, (if that ever came out on anything other than DVD).
I have something called "By George" from Handmade Records that I found in an obscure record store - fairly sure it is a bootleg.
Great music and well done recording!
