I hear you. It's funny though, as stated I got tired of messing with vintage turntables. I have a TD-124 that is up for sale because I purchased the Classic. The Classic is a POS and I couldn't sell it for much. I am debating on whether to keep th the TD-124 and selling the Classic.....
Follow Ups:
I heard a Rega (P3?) just once years ago at a show and thought the music sounded great. Not $100k Room spectacular, but great.
Intervening years I've had Aristons, several VPIs with various arms, the famous KAB Technics with stock and Origin Live arms and heard Teres and so forth at shows.
I now have a Traveler I think sounds great, and just a little less great than a Classic 2 recently extensively heard with the same cartridge.
There are used Travelers but my point really is that high quality, simple, non-suspended tables with a good cartridge give a ton of enjoyment.
I agree, the VPI Traveler is a great sounding turntable. I owned two. The problem with them for me was static electricity. They are made of metal and plastic. Both conductors of static. Living in a dry climate makes it impossible to use this turntable. I tried different grounding schemes to no avail. I would still have it if it wasn't for this problem....
Granted, it may have required so many repeated applications that it would have become a PITA for you. But for the occasional static electricity hassles I have applying it to my spindle, arm, and also spindle of my VPI 16.5 gets rid of the problem. Maybe once a year I apply it on my cables. Think they have a new version now.
......new, or old, there's no suspension at all and, pretty much nothing to break. IMHO they can't touch a used Linn, and my TD124MKii could not either, but that's a completely different story.
A Rega is about as painless a turntable as exists, provided the lack of suspension does not cause a problem with springy floors and the like.
Good luck, no matter what direction you go in.
I love my Rega's no suspension. Fuss free with the bolted shelf affixed to the studs. Coming from an Oracle fancy pants, what a relief!

My sentiments exactly.
I enjoyed all the years of hours building, modifying and fussing with everything but I haven't aged like the nimble folks in the advertising.
All I want to do now is just cue it up and listen.
I went from an LP12 to this about 6 or 7 years back... Primarily because it's "set and forget"
