They seem to be hit or miss in both design and quality control. The simpler models, like the RPM series, are probably the safest ones to buy.
But in this price range, many potential customers will consider the ClearAudio Concept, the Rega Planar 3, and the SOTA Moonbeam. The VPI Player is also nice, but it's not aimed at this market.

The problem with Project is they have too many sku's. I count 15 sku's with variations on many of these sku's. Sometimes in the market place too much choice can be as bad as too little. As a result Project comes off as more a marketing company and less of a hifi products-turntable company.
They only confuse the buyers as Project is more or less, all over the map on record playing ideology and in R&D. This also will affect product QC and efficiencies in product, design, manufacturing, sales and distribution.
My FREE advice to Project is to stick to a core ideology behind how they envision their products among their competitors and for consumer record playing and cut the number of sku's IN HALF, no more than SEVEN sku's. Each strategically placed to offer a consumer a plausible step up in price and value. This will cover a breadth of market place that Project desires to fill and still offer a desire to push a consumer up the 'food chain' in an orderly price to value increase.
I had at home Project prespex , had high hopes reading some British cheapskates , thinking LP12 for the poor , nope , what a POS of the table it was ... Than RPM5.1 , Thank You , no , than Carbon , I give up. it's not even the hum and problematic motor , horrible arm ergonomics those people are only in business to make money , nothing else . I mean do they even bother to listen to their creations? It looks like they copy ideas of other designers without any deeper understanding of why those ideas were implemented.
Looks like everybody is making turntables now. New model every month.
I don't want to sound rude ( I know I promised to be polite ) but when I'm 70 or more I also probably will only care if turntable does what it supposed to do -turn the record and someone bring the tea and cookies, please .
All the best, W

He asked: why do we have so many different models? Why do we introduce so many new models every year? Lets have one good model at each price point, and make that one the best it can be.
