A fellow member asked if I would fabricated an arm board for his 126. After thought and discussions we settled on a carbon fiber, balsa wood sandwich construction. Two 3mm carbon boards and one 1/4 inch balsa wood board. Here is a picture of the sandwich board ready to be cut.

Does the Thorens 126 have a subchassis to which the armboard is fixed? If so, I suggest even better SQ will be obtained by making the subchassis out of balsa-CF composite (as vibrations travel across a boundary better when there's the same material either side of the boundary.

I don't mean to steal your thread, I just want to share a product I came across that I used to make an arm board for my custom TD-150. It is called Dragonplate and is available with many different core materials. I used one with a honey comb Nomex core. Extremely stiff and light weight.
They also so have tubing and structural shapes.
This stuff is not cheap.

Tell me about your table and arm. It looks interesting.
The table is a "stretched" TD-150, to accommodate a 12" arm. The sub chassis is machined from 1/4" aluminum plate and has been lengthened on the arm board end to support the wider arm board. The two spring mounts at the tonearm end have been moved toward the arm board to balance the longer chassis.(notice that the spring studs are now outside the platter on the top plate) The springs have been replaced with gum rubber tubing. The motor is a N.O.S. unit. The base is solid cherry with a Baltic birch bottom plate.
The tonearm is my first complete tonearm build. It is 12" length and uses ABEC 7 bearings and is machined from aluminum, brass an stainless. The arm tube is an Easton arrow shaft.
A fun project. I'm pretty obsessed with building tables and amps and end with way more gear than is practical and usually sell them off and build more. This TD-150 is a keeper for now along with the Lenco and Rondine Deluxe.

Excellent. I like your subchassis. Your arm seems to be well thought out and implemented. I'd love to make an arm. I have a lot of thoughts about what I would do. Maybe someday.
Funk of Pink Triangle fame is making arm-plates and subchassis using balsa ,carbon fiber sandwich. How can I source the materials? I would like to make a few squares also. Very nice work , BTW
Yes, I'm familiar with them. Nice products but I find it is really not difficult to fabricate your own boards but they have a great variety and make it turn key, too.
Looks good- why not aluminum or steel on the bottom?
Happy Listening
Try cutting steel and carbon has other desirable qualities that aluminum and steel don't have.

I think adhesive transfer tapes like the 3M you used are pretty amazing. In addition to being super strong, they might add to internal damping, to a degree, Nice project.
My thoughts, too.
