I am currently using an Ortofon Quintet Bronze which I like a lot and highly recommend. However, the Soundsmith MIMC fascinates me (for some reason) as a possible upgrade and I have not come across any in-depth reviews. All related comments are welcome.
Follow Ups:
It was reviewed on Analog Planet last year.
I have the Zephyr MIMC, purchased just prior to the Star version being available. When used with my Sutherland 20/20 loaded at 470, it sounded great.
I just got one to compare to my Dynavector XX2-MKII that has been retipped by Peter. Only about 15 hours on the Star so far, but it sounds to be one really nice cartridge. I would pretty much concur with Fremer's review. I'd add a couple of other thoughts. The Dynavector is a better cart for rock if that was my listening preference. It's got a bit more solidity and "chunkiness" from the mid-bass down. The MIMC isn't lightweight so much as a bit more open in the lower registers. The Star is fast, fast, fast. Transients really pop. It's not bright, but if your system tends toward the forward the Star may push it too much.
