Hi All,
I am thinking of turning a Debut Carbon turntable into a mono only table. Without breaking the bank(<$300) what would be a good dedicated mono cartridge to use with this table? Would the Debut Carbon even be a good candidate for doing this? Thanks for any input you can provide!!

Check out the TRUE MONO Denon DL-102.
Should fit your budget and high enough output so a SUT shouldn't be needed.

The Ortofon 2M Mono is superb. I am fortunate to have the SE version but the standard one is the same except for a different stylus profile. Less refined than the SE but a great purchase.Dick Hertz suggests an Ortofon Black Mono, however that doesn't exist so a little confusion. If there had been a Black Mono then that was , in effect, the Mono SE. That ceased production in January 2016 and was only available directly from Ortofon so there won't be any NOS stock at dealers. Having said that if you click through the links about Ortofon Mono carts in the link attached it looks like they have reintroduced the SE. However the SE would be outside of your budget.
It'll be fine on a Project Debut Carbon.

...the 2M Black mono would be something to consider.
