I have a DL-S1 I purchased new several years ago that I never used or even
removed from the box. I am thinking of selling it. What would be a fair
asking price?
Thanks for any response.
Follow Ups:
Looking at some websites that used to sell it, they pose comparable MC's at around $1000. IIRC it sold for around $800-1000, new a few years back, yes? So it seems its worth that if its perfect as you say.
With a cart like that, you have countervailing tendencies in pricing: It's aged, so it should go down in price. It's scarce so it should go up. I recently faced the same dilemma selling a beautiful NOS Denon DL-303. I put it up for the same as the new list price (That was 1990 dollars, so deflate that to 2016 dollars...) It took some time to find the right buyer, but I got that, less a few % after haggling. Expect to haggle.
I picked up a couple of low hour DL-S1 cartridges here on the Asylum a few years ago for $200-$250.
I've owned several DL-S1 carts over the past 4 years. They are outstanding very low output MC cartridges. They no longer are available new, IIRC, because Denon discontinued them. However, one or two may still be offered on eBay; there is a used one there now from Russia for $700. When they were available new here they retailed for $950.00. Were it mine, I probably would offer it here on the asylum for $800...hope this helps.
Thanks your post does help.
I enjoy having a DL-S1 every time we listen to vinyl.
