I've been shopping for gear lately and there are a lot of funny listings, along with more than a few irritating ones ("Nice preamp, perfect shape, all original packaging. Already boxed up. Won't ship. Local pick-up only"). What the hell, man?
But I got a special kick out of this one:
"VPI Scout II Turntable...perfect condition...includes everything originally included except for platter, bearing, tonearm, belt and accessories."
At least shipping will be cheap. It doesn't weigh much.
Follow Ups:
And in another Agon listing you can get a complete Scout for only 1075.00.
What is that guy smoking?

Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you.

That is a really funny and novel way to advertise. Note all the things NOT for sale which only leaves the one thing he DOESN'T mention, the plinth! This could start a new fad in the advertising world.

I had been in the market for a TT, and came to the same conclusion - the used market for anything pertaining to vinyl has gone completely and irretrievably mad. It made more sense to buy new, which is something I studiously avoid under normal circumstances, but these circumstances ain't normal. Ads like the one you link leave me shaking my head, although I've seen others that, while perhaps not quite as outrageous, aren't too far off the mark.
I've sold three used tables in the last three weeks ranging in price from $300 to $1000. So far, no complaints. They're still out there. :-)

Where were you when I needed you, Wendell? ;-)
Wendell is a great guy. I was trying to buy a pair of Spendors from him a few years ago but I rolled my car over on the interstate before I could follow up and was otherwise occupied for a while.
"I rolled my car over on the interstate before I could follow up and was otherwise occupied for a while."
I suspect that this is the understatement of the century. Hopefully you've fully recovered now.
I was incredibly lucky as far as physical injuries considering the two full rolls. There was some physical therapy but the bigger harm was done to my wallet; insurance companies can be cruel. Thanks for the well wishes.
Listed them all here. :-) May be adding a couple more.

Ah, it's too late now anyway. I picked up one of those package deals on an EAT C-Major with an Ortofon Quintet Blue and the Okki Nokki record cleaning machine. It was more than I really wanted to spend, but it seemed to offer more value than the prices I was seeing for used stuff.
Next time, maybe...but as far as a TT, I don't expect there to be a next time. This should do me as long as I care to fiddle with it.
The key to buying used, tables especially, is know the seller or pick it up.
Two I sold were picked up and the third was shipped to someone with whom I had a previous relationship. We had a mutual trust.

At least the power cord and feet are included!
