Yes, my new motor is completely silent unlike the original Sota stepper motor, which always produced a faint buzz. It's somewhat surprising that Sota would use a stepper motor in such an expensive turntable because they produce the highest amount of cogging of just about any other type of motor. However, stepper motors are abundantly available along with the integrated circuits that control them. In other words, they're pretty cheap. They also allow push-button speed changing and they produce a lot of torque. I guess the elastic belt and massive platter prevents their cogging from affecting the sound, although I'm pretty sure I noticed improved clarity with my new three phase motor.

I had my right knee replaced on February 8th and I've been in a tremendous amount of pain for the past two weeks. I think the pain is finally beginning to decline and I'm feeling a little better. I need to have my other knee replaced after this one heals.
I hope everything is going well for you.
Best regards,
John Elison

Knee replacement - sounds painful!
I am in San Jose now - moved from Greensboro last November. Still adjusting to the new life here.
Maybe there is an audio event on the west coast where we will meet up!
Best regards,
Brian
Wow! San Jose! How do you like it out there? I don't miss California at all.
I grew up in El Sobrante, California. I graduated from De Anza High School in Richmond, CA. I'll bet that area is more than over-populated. I'm sure you can find some great audio stores and audio shows, though. I know of some in the L.A. area anyway. Let me know how you like it. I haven't been back there in years.
Best regards,
John
