I am in a similar situation, the difference being I have been retired for less than a year. I am sill discovering gems in my 5,000 plus LP collection with a strong emphasis on free improvisation in a jazz idiom. Spending time improving its organization, performing the necessary culling, and adding to it. Additionally, I have been spending time in pursuit of local music, especially avant grade jazz as the scene in the Chicago has blossomed lately. It was always pretty good but we are seeing a resurgence thanks to Bruno Johnson, Mike Reid and a loyal supportive public. There are some great local clubs supporting live music and providing me with opportunities to add to my collection, both digital and vinyl.
