This Telarc LP was misfiled in my modest record collection. It had not been played for a very long time. (ie, decades) It was recorded in late 1978 using the Soundsteam system operating at 50K / 16 which is essentially CD quality. I decided to give it spin with the idea that I would not like the sound. As it turned out, the sound quality was surprisingly good. (Good as in very very good.) I also quickly realized that the microphone placement technique used was also excellent. (three omni-directional)
Follow Ups:
for the most part their LPs do sound better than the CDs form the same digital masters. I have a few of them in both format.

They sound good in many ways, but they are also completely different from well-record analogue. I personally don't care for them, but there are many who like that sound.
I scooped up a bunch of Telarc LPs years ago at Princeton Record Exchange. They are indeed very well-recorded. They changed my attitude about digitally recorded LPs.

Telarc had a lot of good things going back then. They decided to go with the Soundstream digital tape recorder which actually recorded at a higher level than standard cds. They were venturesome... i'e. the cannon shots in the 1812 Overture which will test your decks tracking ability. For the 1812 they even sent their recording engineers up a bell tower. All the early Telarc lps are well done and enjoyable.
