Some honest eBay dealer refunded my dough and when ended up with an ADC XLM body that has an open circuit on the L channel (856 Ohms on the R). Originally purported to be an XLM MkII (not improved). Nice gold metal, its got the open C-shaped bolt holes. Totally clean. I'll mail it to you if you have a use for it or can fix it -- assuming, say, you're in possession of a stereo microscope and tiny surgical tools and an adjustable soldering iron (I actually did that once, to a Nagaoka, but never again!). eMail me via AA.

i was in heaven while playing my original XLM and it's STILL my favorite sounding cartridge.

What arm? Compliance was silly high on that cart, like 60 x 10-6 or something.

mounted on first a rabco st4 then grace 707.

I am guessing it was an XLM-ii, but has no marks on it anywhere.
I have it in my little Sony PS-X55s- the one with the super-low-mass arm. It has been very happily tracking along with all species of ADC's so far. Seems about an ideal combination for taking advantage of the super-high-compliance era carts.

Soundsmith is out of my reach; in any case, I have 2 good ADC bodies and a few different styli to play with now. The Voice of Music just sent a 108-DET (originally the RXL, elliptical) saying it's manufacturer was the original ADC manufacturer. It sounds a little dull, first crack out of the box, compared to my original XLM-ii stylus but it seems worth it to break it in since I trust TVoM guy.I'll post how it goes after few dozen plays.
The only drawback is it will take away from my time listening to my new favorite vintage unit- A Pickering XUV-4500Q (shibata) which has a delicate lively sound and great bass! Fantastic cart.
The ADC needles I have are an NOS XTii Digital Series, the new 108-DET, and the old XLMii original needle. All work nicely in my Sony's arm which seems close to the G-707's very low effective mass. So far, the old XLMii is the sweetest sounding: very well balanced octave-to-octave, dynamic, high output, very low noise, and minimizes surface noise beautifully. If you go ahead, you'll be glad you got it up and running!
Those ADC cartridges have rather unique cantilever-suspension designs. Not to mention the very high compliance.

The one with the flat pins, The others were in the Shure V15 range. Can't comment on the suspension, but it couldn't hurt to contact Peter. All he could say is no, and maybe yes.

Jico makes 2 replacement needles. (See link) They have a Shibata and a HyperElliptical. Both are bonded. I don't know much about either, but Jico has a good reputation. I would feel safer with them than other manufactures. Unfortunately there are no compliance specs so I don't know how close they are to the original. I was considering them for my ADC XLM Mark II improved to put on my Grace 707.
