In Reply to: RE: Used Gemini XL-500 or New Audio Technica PL-60? posted by Hyatt1 on March 13, 2012 at 19:36:51
I've used the Behringer to set up a system for a friend and it's not bad, and you're certainly not out much if you upgrade it later. The Audio Technica model I linked to below is supposed to be phenomenal for the money and you might be able to get the seller to take less (they used to be on sale for ~$50).
Also, regarding the SL-QX300 table, it uses a P-mount cartridge meaning you won't have to fuss with cartridge alignment. You can put a new stylus on the included 3482P cartridge for about $20. In the future, this cartridge would be a big upgrade:

Of course, once you get hooked on vinyl, the upgrades never stop. :) One more thing to remember with vintage tables is how much you can end up getting for your money. The SL-QX300 retailed for $220. Adjust that for inflation and it would cost $435 today.

Haha i know what you mean about vinyl. I was handed some old records like zeppelin, the doors, velvet underground and I can't believe I havent been listening to music like this forever. And that was on my friend's good turntable with crappy powered computer speakers. Sent me on a mission.I just found this Technics SL-BD27 on craigslist that I'd be able to pick up. Can't find much info on it though. Any thought on it and how it compares to the one on ebay? (Last question I promise then I'm hunting for used.)

It's a lesser model than the one on ebay. I can't tell from the picture if it's missing the dust cover. It's a belt-drive too, so it might need a replacement soon. That's what the SL-B (or SL-BD) means in the name. Models with SL-D, or SL-Q are direct drive.Anyway, don't worry about the questions. In fact you can send me a message through the asylum if you need any help down the road.

Rad, thanks a lot. I'm going to look around ebay/CL. I shall report back with my purchase decision (or another Q)
