I use the 820s but at the very least you want to use 470uf

Thanks, Michael, so you can use a much higher value capacitance for the doubler? Guessing you might need to put in a current limiter after that, yes?
I do that as standard practice but I would put in Schotky diodes or the GI diodes as well.you can use 470uf as well. Those work well there too.THe 470uf at 450v fit perfectly. Down stream you want to increase it by 2.5. If you have a 40uf,use a 100uf.

Hi Michael,
Is that 820 uF @ 250V, or, rather, what is the rating?
Also, brand and source, please. I have an S-8000 that needs recapping and other updates.
thanks in advance,
David
820 μF. is what Jim McShane uses, when they mechanically fit. Jim uses a smaller value in space constrained situations, like a Fisher 500C.
Buy well vetted parts from Jim McShane. Look towards the bottom of the linked page for "Electrolytic and Can Caps".

yes the 820uf at 250v.
