I'd been thinking about making some changes to my system when a buddy on the forum told me he'd buy my preamp if I ever decided to sell it. So, I sold it to him.
Then I listed my amp... and it sold too.
I decided an integrated is what I wanted and something from back in the day when I was in the biz.
I knew exactly what I wanted... a Yamaha CA-1010, but it had to be in superb condition and local... no shipping.
I hit pay dirt this week...
Ain't she sweeeeeet !
I am so happy !
I picked it up yesterday and listened to it all night.
Its all about synergy and the CA-1010 gets along with the rest of my system like they've known each other forever. It supposedly has been "recapped", but I'll have a buddy of mine check it out and do whatever it needs.
The 1010 was a current product my first year in the business... and as I said, nostalgia is important to me.
Music is full of emotion... and at the risk of sounding corny, I think components (beyond sonically) compound the effect.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
Follow Ups:
It dropped the left channel on phono twice... and then it came back on its own.
It seemed the longer it was on (the warmer it got) the muddier and more ill-defined things got.
Very odd.
I was into it for too much to justify a full rebuild and the seller was nice enough to take it back.
The search continues.

The KA-7300, great amp that won't break the bank.
Hard to beat a schveet vintage Kenny, and the true dual mono design of some of the upper tier models along with the obvious build quality shows real dedication to building the best.Martin

The power amp section of the CA-1000 and CA-1010 are, in my opinion, audiophile quality. The preamp section is just average. The power amp section in class AB isn't particularly good-sounding.
But pair the power amp section in class A with a nice preamp and you've really got something, if you can live with 20 watts per channel. And let it breathe--it will run HOT!
I purchased a Yamaha CA-1010 last November and couldn't be happier.
I'm also planning to buy a pair of Magnepan 3.71 in the near future and wonder how they will match up. The Yamaha mates well with my Coincident speakers but the Maggies will be a whole new ball game.

Wow Dean, that looks like a new unit. You were fortunate to find it locally and the condition is a big bonus.
I always admired the look of the silver Yamaha models. Unfortunately the only one I ever owned was an all-in-one receiver with cassette player I got for the bedroom. It was probably near the bottom of their line up. It looked nice with a pair of RS Minimum 7 speakers in silver though.

Very nice Dean! I have never owned a Yamaha component, however I have always liked the looks of them. I am tempted to look for one and maybe replace my Marantz 1060 in the garage system.
Having had both at the same time I would be careful before selling the 1060 if it's restored.I liked the sound of my Yammies but if you're a Marantz man there is no substitute. It's a taste thing.
The 1060 is a classic and the template of the best of Marantz. If you are in the position you really should have it restored by Bob Speece. I had my Marantz 250M redone by him and WOW! is it different.

is one of these to go with it! The Yamaha CT-7000 was thought to be the poor man's Sequerra back in 1974. But at $1200 1974 dollars, it was still far out of the average man's reach.
I don't think your emotion statement sounded corny at all. I still use a Marantz 105 tuner for exactly that reason. I have other tuners which out-perform it from an RF standpoint, but the Marantz blue dial was something I lusted after as a teenager, but could never afford.
I hope your new old amp brings you years of great service and pride in ownership!
...best tuner I ever owned. Love the way it looks.
I have a small Yamaha tuner (same vintage) in my office system, which gets used daily.
The CA-1010 will be mostly used for vinyl and the occasional CD.
I'm on the hunt for a pair of ADS L810 speakers to go with the Yamaha. I sold that combination quite a bit back in the late 1970's.
I'd like to see what I think of the combination today.

My favorite was the 710. We also sold the Dahlquist DQ-10 and Magnepan MG-II - which is what I upgraded to from a pair of Braun LV-1020s.
Then came along Acoustat...
...and liked them a lot.
I also had the L1230, my personal favorite ADS.
I never had the 810. Perhaps that's attraction.
The shop I worked for at the time didn't sell anything nearly as exotic as the Dahlquist or the Magnepan.
Allison was the only non-rectangular box line we sold. I had a pair of Threes. Fond memories there.
Now that I think of it, we also had the Tannoy "Cheviot", which was a bit unusual at the time, but still just a big box.

Funny but I had the 610 and 810 but no 710.
Missed it by THAT much!

I *think* the models from that era are ...
200
300
400 (First large, then small. The larger version morphed into the 420)
420
520
620
700
710
730
810
910
1230
1530
2030
Later came the 570, 780, 690, 880, 990, 1090, 1290, 1590...
...and others I'm sure to have forgotten.
A pair of 910's with original stands. Someday.

I feel the same way about my first Threshold Stasis amp, but if you're looking for better sound, a DQ-10 is superior to the ADS family in terms of eliminating the "box" and providing a more open sounding result.
And still be a 70s classic. :)
I'm a fan of the DQ-10.A few problems.
Too wide for my room.
Roughly twice the cost of the 810.
I need to own the 810 and get it out of my system (mental system, not audio system).
Truth is, I'm nuts for my current speakers (Platinum Audio Studio One).
They will be tough to replace, so will be held on to while I experiment with others.

Yeah, I do too.
I have a couple of Yamaha T-80 tuners which are great RF performers, but they're positively fugly compared to the sleek, sexy CT-7000.
Good luck with your search for the ADS L810s!
...T2.
I've owned a few, they perform well, sound great and for me, look stellar.
I don't need a tuner in this system, but if I find a clean T2 at a decent price, all bets are off.

Clean layout, low profile, and no spaceship lighting.
Note to self: "I do not need another tuner. I do not need another tuner..."
lots of switches and dials!

Happy listening, there's always been a soft spot in my heart for integrated amps, I started this journey way back when with one. And as luck would have it I recently had the opportunity to replace it, I get the nostalgia thing lol.
Not long ago I decided to simplify the bedroom system and now it sports only 2 speakers, an integrated amp, and a disc player.
Martin
Those are wonderful integrated amps. I owned a 610 and a 810, maybe one other as well. And I always loved the sound of them. WHY!!! I sold them is beyond me??? It was a bad time in my audio life.
Consider a restoration by a professional. But do enjoy it now and post some more on how it's working out.
enjoy
