Looking @ getting a vintage Sansui 5000a 2 channel receiver. These are kind of cool looking and have heard they sound pretty good for very little $. Anyone have any experience with these or have a different suggestion?
Follow Ups:
Well -- if you want a receiver, and you like the cosmetics, the 5000A is an OK example.
One nice thing about the 5000A is a good tuner section (better than average). The big caveat with the 5000A (and the unsuffixed 5000) relates to the driver boards. The originals were time bombs. There was an upgraded board that may (or may not) be retrofitted to any given 5000A; if the boards haven't been changed (or revised), the price of the receiver should reflect it -- AND the mitigation will need to be performed if you're planning to use the receiver (as opposed to have it sit on a shelf).
The 5000X had the updated driver boards, FWIW.
My 5000A sits on a shelf.
all the best,

and by that I mean unless you are prepared for a full restore the condition of that exact one you plan on buying is MUCH more important that what anyone thinks of that model

This is why I prefer separates. There is so much inside a receiver.

Me too, that and versatility and getting what one needs I'm on board

I second Airtime's comments. I have a 5000x as my garage receiver. A couple friends in the Army in 70 and 71 had Sansui 5000x's and I had a Pioneer SX 1000TW. A lot of these units came back from SE Asia with returning GI's. They were good sounding units new, and can sound good today.
My personal feeling was the Pioneer had the better tuner and the Sansui had the better amp.
I've had several Sansui S-5000a receivers. THAT receiver was a lesson learned that good audio can be done on a budget.
Truth be told I was always a closet Sansui fan. However much like Pioneer I always felt Sansui's (and Pioneer) better sounding stereos were their receivers and lower powered units. I tried many a high powered Sansui and Pioneer and always preferred those simpler receivers.
Get it and enjoy it. Then consider having all the capacitors redone. They are starting to age out. And think of how much better it will sound after that's done. An easy job that most anyone can do.
