I've listened to this guy a few times now on 40 meter lower sideband.Anyway,I changed the drop on my 40meter dipole today and put in new low loss RG8/U Belden 9913 cable.Naturally I wanted to try it out so I tuned to 7185 LSB and heard these two guys talking and the WA4UF call was none other than the grandson of Frank McIntosh whose name is Bruce. He was talking to a KB8 station in West VA about his Mc275 that was a family heirloom along with the S line Collins he uses.I looked up his call and sure enough,it was the grandson of old Frank McIntosh. Anyway,I just broke in to get a signal report and left it at that.I started to do a search on him and I found a website he has about the family. You can also see his Collins and his Mc275.He has several links but he's into old guitars and guitar tube amps and rebuilding them.

I drove past Frank's old house in Scottsdale. Now a high end gated community on the side of a mountain.
he didn't like the winters in Binghamton NY. :)
The Old Man sort of fell in love with the desert, and yeah, I think he may well have gotten tired of shoveling snow. :) He built a heck of a house up the side of a mountain north of Phoenix. He loved to show off his stereo to anyone who visited - TD-125, MR-78, C-32, pair of 2125s bridged, each driving an XR-7 and ML-4M in parallel. Also had a very very early Philips CD player that had an early prototype of the MCD-7000's electronics in it.

I grew up there and could not blame him,
Now you couldn't pay me to live in Scottsdale.
They over built it and it's filled with some very nasty people.
Mike, what were the odds that you would tune in Bruce McIntosh on 40 meters?Cool that you did.Too bad his mom used 409 to clean the Mc275!
metal chassis without damage. Let me know what your feelings are please. Bill.
Formula 409 is very effective in "cleaning" off silk screened printing off of McIntosh chassis.Other than that,it probably is fine.
It was 409 or Fantastick or (now that I think back on it) some vile concoction from that silly little soap business in Ada, MI that ate my father's soul (who me? issues with Amway? Perish the thought! :D). Got the chrome all clean and shiny, but the only lettering left on the chrome is the serial number. :(

What have you had success with when cleaning silk screening? Thanks.
