Why I'm using mine as I type this post.
That is one special little amp.

You want to spray cleaner/lube in the bias pot(s) underneath along with the output/balance slide switch. This is important as is cleaning your tube sockets.
The S-5000 is an amazing amp.Once the proper upgrades are done, very few amps in that power rating can best it,IMHO.E

Are you talking about that little turn control on the top rear that you use with the bias slide switch?
That is one incredible little amp. I really like my new stuff like my CJ preamp and VTA ST-70 or NAD C275BEE power amps, but that Sherwood just plays - MUSIC!!!
That's what I'm talking about..Just give it a couple squirts of deoxit D5 on the slide switch and regular control lube on the controls..Read adjust the humpots every month or so and clean them once a year.

Ok great. I think I may have to replace that V4 socket. I've checked and tightened, I think it's done.
But I should clean it out??????
I remember a long time ago I had a friend who owned a Sherwood amp. It may very well have been an S-5000 or similar. I remember that it sounded terrific. I am sure after some updates it is one heck of a great sounding amp.
The S-5000 with the 7189s blows away a Dynaco ST70 and PAS3X preamp, especially after a few cap upgrades IMHO. They have an actual five tube preamp and split-load phase inverter with the 7199 Tri/pent.The ST70 loads G2 of the 7199 with a 1.3meg where the Sherwood loads G2 with a 470k.The 7189 outputs take about half the drive the EL34s but keep mind that Sherwood is ultra linear as well.
