I picked up a used Optonica turntable a little while ago. I was looking for something with a heavier tonearm to use with a mono cartridge (Denon DL 102). So far, so good.I did a lot of research and discovered it was actually Sharp's entry into the world of turntables during the late 70's.

That looks a lot nicer than the Optonica table we sold in our shop in the late 80's. That one looks like Denon made it (or maybe JVC). How are the bearings on the arm?

that's a nice looking TT, does a mono cartridge make a big difference in mono LP's?
If so I have a second TT maybe I should get a mono cartridge for it I love mono sound
Thanks, I only paid $35 for it (without a cartridge). Your receiver is cool looking... I really like that black face with the white letters and radio tuning piece. If you have a decent mono collection, by all means get a mono cartridge.
I believe (I may be wrong) a stereo cartridge picks up vertical information on the walls of the groove, while a mono cartridge picks up horizontal info in the groove. Mono records do sound less noisy with a mono cartridge, and are much more forgiving with scratched records.
