going to build the flexi rack this weekend. Anyone know of a good way to conceal the all thread rods so it doesn't look so 'industrial'? I was thinking of using the black shiny hose home depot sells in their plumbing dept (only if it makes a snug fit) but wondered if anyone's used anything else. Anyone know of any 6/8" cylinder housing that could slip over the rods? Thanks in adv-j____________//________________

they come in different colors and have a slit on one side so you just slide them on and can be cut very easily.

I used PVC for my "no-flexy" rack for the same reason as you. I cut lengths of 1-1/2 inch PVC pipe and strung them between the shelves. Besides covering the threaded rods, it also stops the rack from swaying. Also, assembly of the rack is a snap because there are only two nuts on each rod, one at the top and one at the bottom. It makes assembling the rack a snap. You need to have the PVC cut on a radial saw or table saw so that each section under a shelf is the same exact length. Before assembly, I polished the PVC sections with jeweler's rouge.

I couldn't help but notice (nice pix of your rack) the points on the bottom.....what did you use? My diy flexi rack is using 5/8" threaded rod

I used some brass cones called "Ultra Points" that I got from Audio Concepts (www.wudioc.com) in Wiasconcin. Unfortunately, they don't make them any more but they still sell a smaller one called the "extra point". I enclosed this picture so you could see that the point rests agains a lock nut which keeps the weight of the rack from shearing off the brass stud that connects the point to the rod. Very important to do.

It makes a beautiful cover. Once you find your ideal length between shelves, just cut and fit this in; you may need a rubber washer on the ends to ensure no rattling.I made an entire rack and speaker stands out of copper pipe and it works wonderfully well and looks super. Even non-audiophiles are complimentary about it and ask me to make them some furniture! It's easy as hell.
Posted the pix some time ago in Tweakers Asylum. Write if interested.
