All the advantages stated above are correct; it's all about strength, not acoustics. However, the real challenge is to make a Sonosub that isn't so ugly. If you have a smallish driver and hardwood floors then there can be another problem with Sonosubs, there a bit too lightweight and unless you add some weight to the bottom they will walk across the floor. If you use a large driver with a hefty magnet structure then this should not be a problem. I've built 2-Maelstrom Sonosubs and there over 100Lbs each so no problem with walking, they also have a closeable Port on top which works very well for Music.
