I bought a Pioneer SX-890 a few weeks back and was thinking of replacing the filter caps with newer and better ones. The problem is that they are 50V 15,000 mF caps, which I can't seem to find after searching the internet. I did find 1, but they were 140 dollar a piece! Where can I find caps this big at a more moderate price and what caps would sound the smoothest?

Follow Ups:
Digi-key has them starting at about $9.00

I have a couple of 22,000mfd/75v caps sitting here in NYC. You can get them pretty cheap for a p/u.
Hey Kal, Would 22,000uF caps work instead of 15,000uF caps?

Depending on the amp, it might be even better. What is the amp?

I see what amp. I doubt if they will fit.

Ebay can be excellent value, particularly for otherwise expensive large value caps or for bulk buys. For example:

I needed 24 x 1,800uF/350V caps for a pair of valve monoblocks I was building and I found exactly what I needed on Ebay - $2.50 each for brand new Sprague caps (about $25 a piece retail). They measured on spec and have worked flawlessly so far (about 2 years). That purchase was from USA Caps who regularly trade on Ebay, but also have an outside site. It's worth a contacting them.
You'll rarely find the exotic Black Gate or Cerafine ranges being auctioned, but Nippon Chemi-Con, Sprague and Panasonic are often available. All good value products.

I will have to check into that one.

I checked out the catalog. I found a Nichicon KG series, but the it was rated @ +/- 20% tolerance. They had a "Super" and a "Gold". The Gold was $15.95 and the Super was $26.95. What accounts for the 11 dollar difference in price? I mean either one would work, but if it is worth it to spend 22 dollars more then I would. I am just wondering if I ccan find caps with a tighter tolerence than +/- 20% or is that when you have to pay 100+ dollars a cap?
