Good suggestion, I was thinking of cuting at the top and peeling down, but now I think I will do it your way.Which Maggies are you working on ?
What brand/quality components have you found inside ?
What parts are you planning to change ?
1st) got the @#$$%^&* steel completely out of the circuit & replaced the posts with Cardas Au-plated Rh 5/7-way (I think).2nd) removed the joke of a choke & replaced with Goertz 12ga CFAC.
3rd) upgraded the adequate caps with Dayton's with a Dayton non-L bypass (still tweaking values).
4th) built a box & housed them externally in back on the railings.
I haven't started on the MGCC1, but still tweaking my 2.7 (3-way QRs) & MGLR1 (2-way QRs). The problem is one that must've plagued Magnepan. That is a 2nd-order Low-Pass mated w/ 1st-order High-Pass. Things go nuts if you make the woofer go 1st-order & the phase goes wacky if you close the XO gap. I can't go 2nd-order Linkwitz-Riley & invert the tweeter's phase w/ a Krell CurrentMode amp. There's got to be a solution that I haven't thought up yet.
Sounds like fun replacing crossover parts. I got chicken when I almost did my 2.7's. Let me know when you finish so I can do what you do. I tweak everything. The speakers are next.Mike
I had forgot about the steel. The terminals are certainly candidates for replacement. Thanks - that 2 good suggestions you have made !For better or worse, tweaking the crossover design is beyond my abilities but I am always open to suggestions.
Try inverting phaze of woofer, pick a crossover point for the 2. At .707 of this point use for the woofer crossover point and 1.414 x this point use for the tweeter crossover point. The 12db low and 6 db high are still the best route to go be it passive or active.
That's pretty much what I have now but the sound is a tad funky with phase. I'd love to get away with a 1st-order low-pass & dispense with this &^%$@!!!
