As I had mentioned, I am still experimenting but from what I've heard so far, I will procede with the finished product. I did not stuff the prototypes and the bottoms are closed. I used schedule 40 and I bought it at Home Depot. I didn't have a 2.375 in hole saw so I took the other approach and cut 1.41 in squares of 3/4 in plywood to register on the inside of the pipe and screwed them down to a base board at the right spacing. I'll be able to use this board for the base of my mold (removed after set-up). I went ahead with the sched. 40 because it was cheap and available. I think that between the fact that the tubes will be damped by the stuffing and the amount of acoustic energy transfered to the tubes will not be significantly audible, It should result in a good facsimile.Best of luck
If you close the bottom, and did not stuff the pipes, they will resonate at a certain fundamental frequency, instead of absorbing the floor to ceiling modes to some extent. WHile the midrage diffusion will still work, the pipe resosnance could become a problem.IF YOU DON'T BUILD TO THE RECIPE, THEN DON'T EXPECT THE SAME RESULTS!!!!!

I am currently using these prototypes to evaluate the midrange defusion characteristics of the device. The final set will be of proper construction. What do you think of the use of ABS Vs. PVC?
Nothing like the old knuckle rap test!ABS might be better, but it depends on the exact composition of the plastics, so the best course is to rap them and see what you think.
