Make a box by screwing plywood togetyer and filing it with sand.
Blutak it onto a concrete paver and either screw a plywood top or place another paver there.
The box must be totally full.
Its very (VERY) heavy and non resonant.
If you have solid floors you are laughing; if suspended floor then make sure its strong!!
There you are cheap and very stable!
Now who's an expert in veneering to make it look prettier?
Take a look at Hobby lobby, and buy the roman plaster deco plant stands...They are like 40 LBS each....14.99
The stand is hollow., Plaster about 1/4 inch thick, and pretty. 36/40/48" tall ava. 8" dia. with 10" top and bottoms.
Then fill it with beach sand, dry.
Put a sorbothane mat on it.
before turning it over and dumping the sand, Silicone a 2"thick square piece of marble to the bottom and let dry...Prefer the beveled edges for effect.
THESE are dead.
Enjoy the prettyest/cheapest/best deal speaker stand I know of....
Of course, splatter paint it to look like the marble base.Total cost ....less than 130.00
They weigh about 115 lbs when done/ each.
Pretty Damn cool ehhh?
Pretty cool -- Yes. I'm a little concerned about your suggestion for keeping the mable base attached with the weight of all that sand. Is it your experience that such a constructed stand can withstand moderate moving as required within a room or from room to room?
