I had my Adcom amp and Preamp modified by John at Musical Concepts. Well worth the money. The results are execellent. If you can afford the Black Gate caps and signature mod go for it. I had the Black gate caps and signature mod installed in both of my components. HUGE difference that even my non-audiophile wife noticed. Her first comment was "sure sounds a lot clearer".

I have had my B&K modified and I think I know what is done.He probably will do the following with the following results:
-Put premium parts in-
Caps
Tranformer(s)
Caps
Resistors
Add a DC Servo Loop
Rewire
New Binding Post
*Re-bias to run more in Class A operation
etc. After you get it back the greatest difference ahall be to get rid of any veiling you hear in the stock unit which makes the amp more transparent.Add to the soundstage making instraments more lifelike and more air around them.Bass is more taut and deeper.
Those were the effects I had and I cannot see why his mods deviate much. Now when I go to listen to amps when I hear any veiling I immediately say after 3 min. or less thanks I have heard enough.
Is it worth it?
I always refered to mine as a poor mans Krell! You tell me.

John has designed new circuit boards that are the basis for all of his modifications except for the most minimal as you've described. I've had Musical Concepts mods in my Hafler 280XL for 10 years now and it'll still compete with the best amps money can buy. He really does know his stuff. I also would recommend the Blackgate caps and signature mods. The end result is very impressive.
