With many thanks to bobwire(yep he's still out there!!) and others in their assistance in the modifications to my XB 940 sacd player I now find myself going that little further.
To all those with the 'Knowledge' on clock upgrades:-.
See ,although the rest of my system is 'reasonable'- mf308 pre and 2x 300cr power, I'm still a stingy git at heart.
The player in question has a 45.1584MHz clock fitted , the usual (cheap?) two pin oscillator on a silicone bed .
In notes by Guido Tent a statement is made that by using an external oscillator 'any can be chosen independant of the servo chip.'
Now as stated before as a engineer from the dark side(mechanical) some electronics is beyond me.
(Owen will testify to this fact.If you read this, thanks Owen .Down there for dancing!!!!!!!!!!)
Being sold by Maplin in the UK is an oscillator at 48MHz ,DIL14 4pin package,0to 70degrees C,fan out of 10TTL and an adjustment tolerance of +/- 100ppm.FOR 2 pounds sterling.(it does not say if it is an XO unit and does this matter?)
Now with P&P Guido's unit is approx 30 pounds.
Am I wrong in thinking this cheap unit will do the trick when used with Guido's suggested independant 5v supply ?
OR
Do I send him the money?
Mark

I think the Tent clock is a bargain. But your stock crystal would benefit from a dedicated supply and sandbagging. The XTAL I think injects noise into the power supply. With a stand alone you are only pumping crap into it.
But the Tent clock is great.
