Have you thought of using canned food tins? - sprayed black, they would look ok, and the cutout to slide over the transformer could be made easily in the lid, leaving some metal left for snap riveting to the top-plate. Also, as they are predominantly made from steel, you'll get some screening to boot!Could be simple, cheap and effective..
Also, just thought, you could use 'oddball' tins, such as the classic 'SPAM' etc, for an unusual industrial design statement!
Thanks for the suggestions Owen. Yes, Spam® cans do have many uses. I have a Spam® can on my desk that’s filled with pens and pencils. However, for this project, I’m trying to get away from that “DIY look”.
