I have read a number of post here at the asylum and elsewhere regarding tweaking this DVD/SACD unit. I have had my unit for a month or so and I find the soundstage to be flat two deminsional but otherwise enjoyable. Most of the post are of those that "planned" to modify ther NS500V, with the exception of Bobwire (who got rid of his after modification). I have read mods made to other DVD/SACD players including the 9000ES and Samsung.I want to perform moderate tweaks to this unit. I have a copy of the schematics that I have reviewed. I will replace the 47 MFD output coupling caps and shield/ground the ICs. Bobwire removes the 470 pf caps in series with the output which I will try as well. I will be using this primarily for CD/SACD player.
Are there any other "beneficial" tweaks that have been performed on this unit?
The switching PS is a concern to me; are there any tweaks that can be safely made to the PS?

Go to DIYAudio.com and look at the threads on the NS500 on the digital forum. Lots of info there.
I have read all the threads I could find on DIYaudio regarding the NS500V. It seems that the post either were from those planning to make mods or from those that had made mods and wanted help in trying to get the unit to work again. I wanted feedback on mods that have been succesfully implemented.
A- tweaks that cost as much as the item being tweakeked fly in the face of my down-east frigality.B- If "soundstage" is the issue the best tweeks invlove speakers and room acoustics.

I have modified a Sony CD player and Bobwired a Samsung 709 DVD/CD player. Both of these units have a 3 dimensional soundstage. The flat statement was made about the sound from the NS500V compared to these other two units in my system. There may be something that may be done to enhance my listening environment, but my concern is the sound from the NS500V. I would like to get it on par with the other digital sources.
