Hi guys!I ve ordered some 21.5awg Cardas-Litz wires and i d like to know how do you melt the coating of the individual strands of wires?I ve read somewhere that i need a solder pot or something like that.I dont have a solder pot,so is there a cheaper way of doing this?I ve check cardas.com and couldnt really find the "How to's" on the site.
Btw,you guys out there who have tried used the wires before, what's its sonic characteristics?
Thanks for the help guys!

Follow Ups:
I used it in my Focal Audioms I built. I went from standard stranded electrical wire to that. It was better. Went from that to Kimber. Ended on solid silver (much cheaper than any of the "audiophile wires). Much more focused than Cardas or Kimber. Better dynamics. This is the "stiff" silver (myron toaback). This is not the teflon coated "soft wire. I liked cardas the least, had fuzzy unfocused sound. I just used a soldering pot to tin the ends.

Hello jthally, I'm interested in where you purchased your wire?

...nor does trying to burn it off using a mini blowtorch. Even using an iron and flux doesn't seem to get the varnish off of the inner strands (15.5ga.) cleanly enough to get a really good connection - never realized how much a dirty solder joint affected the sound, but it does. The MCM solder pot and a bar of solder is the way to go. Just be aware that MCM will barrage you with emails and junk mail forevermore :-)
I used a solder station set at about 65W on the 15.5 gauge version of the Cardas. The solder was either Wonder Clear or Cardas Eutectic. You have to apply heat and solder simultaneously and for a prolonged period in order to burn off the varnish on the Litz wire, but it does happen after a while. Unfortunately, then the gunk from the wire fouls up the tip of the solder iron, so I too would recommend a solder pot, even though the job can be done without one. As for sonics, the tonearm wire is pretty nice, but I am reserving judgment on the 15.5 gauge stuff, which I am using inside a spkr. Right now it seems to blur the sonics a bit.

You will want to use a solder pot. A hot iron just won't cut it for this gauge wire. It will take forever to tin the tips and you will just be frustrated.A cheap and very usable solder pot is available from MCM Electronics. Search for order number: 21-3510 or search for solder pot
It's only $25.20. A worthwhile investment if you plan on using lots of that cardas-litz in the future.

Hi,
I have only used Cardas 33 guage litz wire to rewire a tonearm once. Sonic results with Cardas was a smoother top end, while retaining the detail.
I used silver bearing solder with no rosin core,(very fine guage), and a tube of rosin flux. One of the few usefull items available at the local Radio Shack IMO.
I used a fairly hot 40 watt iron, and dipped the wire ends into a "glob" of flux paste. I heated the wire end with the flux on it with my iron until the flux boiled completely off. It took 2 or 3 applications. The ends of the wires then "tinned" easily with a little silver solder and minimum heat application.
May be a little tougher with higher guages, but I would try it.
