Mmmm. So I should try the silicone grease, but you'll pass on the petroleum jelly. And I should try the silicone grease because someone who makes a rather overpriced line filter/surge suppressor recommends it?

You should have just stuck with "Try it, you might like it." That was one of the most shallow reasons for trying something that I've ever been given.
