Hello, I recently moved into a new house and in my listening room that measures 13x19x9 and have experiences a dramatic change from my old one which had vaulted ceilings and was slightly smaller. ( duh why wouldnt i) anyway what i hate is i have lost clarity, some imaging and soundstage, bass in certain cycles has been dropped dramatically but id say the worst of all is the midrage is hollow and muddy truthfully. my $2500 gem sounds more like a 20 dollar boombox. and the soundstage. i have moved the speakers around a bit, farther apart, closer. farther from the back wall, closer, toeing in etc. I havent tried anything like sound absorbtion panels yet. but i am looking for some ideas on what i can do. The room in on concrete floor with thick carpet also. Please help me, everyday the idea of selling my gear and getting a headphone setup seems better and better. Thank you also there is a pic of what my setup looks like right now, except the speakers have been moves farther apart and less toed in. Thanks
Hi,
I have recently bought room acoustic treatment for my room. If you have space constraints, I find putting diffusor behind the speakers and behind the rack very effective in helping image anchor in.
Do try them.
See:http://www.geocities.com/jonrisch/a.htm
for articles on room acoustic set up, and inexpensive DIY treatments.
Pay particular attention to this one:

Hi, check out the various speaker placement formulas, in the FAQ section of the Asylum. I would try the speakers on the short wall. I would start with the speakers about 7'4" apart measured at the tweeter centers. I would bring the speakers out from the back wall 3'8", measured from center of tweeter. Don't be afraid to bring the speakers further out into the room. Obviously, these are just starting points. If you must have the equipment rack and TV between the speakers, place them all the way to the back wall. Determine where your chair should be, by listening. I'm sure that you will need some room treatments, bass traps, acoustic panels, and I really like the corner pieces offered by Roomtunes and Echobusters. There is lots of DIY info, in the archives. The Quick and Dirty bass traps are easy and effective. To get the best out of a system, you must set the room up around the speakers, not the speakers to fit the room.

Is that your couch so close to the speakers? Are you set up the wide way or the long way? If you are 13 deep and 19 wide change it around, you will be very happy. Put your couch right up against the back wall. This will greatly improve you bass and help your brain deal with reflections giving you better perceived imaging.
Here is site:
http://www.immediasound.com/Speakersetup.htmlMoving your speakers wider will give you wider soundstage at the expense of pinpoint imaging if you go to far. I was able to get my speakers pretty far apart 12-14' with no problem (did this for projector image). Toeing them in will restore focus but kill some of the width.
Moving them away from the wall give the soundstage depth. I have the front of mine about 5' from the front wall.
I went (still going) through what you are. Having just moved my new room is much bigger and open to the left. I am getting there, it takes time. Grab a roll or two of insulation from your local HW store. Stick it in the corners stacked two high. You can take them back. Do this even if you don't seem to have the room Takes 2 minutes makes a big difference.
I just saw the pic of your setup, The large cyliders in the corners must be the insulation you talk about. Thats interesting i will have to try that. And another thing, I think its in everyone's blood or something but i dont know how many pics ive seen on peoples setup's and theyve got shrek playing on the widescreen lol. I like your projector wish i had one of them. ThanksHappy Listening.
Those are just the quick and dirty bass traps Jon Risch suggests. I am going to make some real ones and cover them in Guilford so they look like ASC tube traps. I have them stacked 4 high my ceilings are 9'.Shrek happens to be one of the two DVD's that I own. The other is Evil Dead Part 2 won't really show well in picture he, he.
Just give it time. I was hating life when I got setup in my new place. It just comes together real slow.
Try the speakers 9-10 feet apart along the 19' wall, say 2 feet from the wall with the listening chair about a foot from the opposite wall.
Thanks for the replies, Well, i guess i should tell you a bit more about my room, On the short wall, ob bolth sides of the room i cant do that one side has a slider, and the other has my door, Also i have a dedicated line on the wall where its setup now so it petty much needs to stay there. The thing in the picture that looks close isint a couch its my bed lol, Im 17 and this is my bedroom. Anyway hopefully soon i will be getting a lazy-boy recliner, and i can just move the bed elsewhere in the room. I can move the speakers out into the room more.I will try your suggestions though. I think i may even have some leftover insulation laying around here fro when we did the house. Thanks
