I picked up an old portable stereo phonograph at a flea market. It's a Norelco made in Holland by Phillips. The turntable was not working so I junked it. The amp is a little single ended jobbie which uses two ECC83's and two EL95's. I did a search for EL95's and learned that it's the same amp as the Phillips AG 9016/00 integrated and puts out all of 2 wpc. It came with a couple of 5" speakers which attach to the top. Problem is that, being strictly a phonograph, it has no line inputs. What needs to be done, other than adding some RCA connectors, to be able to input a line level signal from a CD or cassette player? Or is this even possible? I understand that line level is a much hotter signal than phono so what needs to be done to prevent distortion? The phono cartridge is the type with the dual stylus that flips over for different record grooves. It's listed as a Diamond AG 3305 and the owners manual says its a piezo electric (non-ceramic) cartridge. I'm not hoping for any serious sound out of this, it's just something to play with. After all, the two ECC83 / 12AX7's are worth more than I paid. I'm no electronics expert but if there's a simple way to accomplish this I'd like to try it. Any advice?
Piezoelectric phono cartridges (ceramic and crystal) are self equalizing line level devices. Some crystal cartridge models have O/P voltages higher than the 2.0 Volt "standard" for CDPs. All you have to do is connect a pair of RCA jacks to the wires that formerly were connected to the tonearm. Use a selector switch and multiple sets of jacks if you like.

Thanks! Works great and sounds pretty good too as long as you don't try to turn it up much. Connected some old BIC Formula 1 speakers which made a huge difference over the cheap little ones that came with it.
Sounds like fun, maybe some new tubes and a better power cord are next?
