In Reply to: Equivilant EAGLE or HUBBELL for P&S 5242? posted by wheezer on May 29, 2002 at 18:16:16:
You shouldn't have THAT much trouble finding the P&S... Try calling P&S, that's what I did, and they turned up right under my nose for cheap. The P&S 5242 is hard to beat for the $$. I think I'll pick up one of those Sentry's tomorrow if Wally sells them in Canada, never enough power strips here these days.

Hi Craig,
Can you believe cooper has no online catalogeThere is the same thread on the CA. Eagle 5252.
wheezer,Yep, the best looking Eagle I saw at Lowes is the 5252. Impressive design and solid grip, looks like good brass contacts. It appears to be pretty much the same as the Eagle Hospital Grade without the chem-resist orange face, even has the *cool* hinged plastic snap-on screw covers. Comes in ivory, white, gray and I think black. I tested in-store the grip on both and they are identical, very solid. Nice looking for under $5 *but* what do they sound like compared to the Pass & Seymour? I bought two of them and I’m waiting for a *review* before I open the plastic package...
Cheers
Duster,
You saved me allot of ground work, thanks. Whose review are you waiting for?
I did see the plastic straps on their web site, which is all they show. That is a great caveat, as it will avoid an arc to ground in a metal enclosure. I've seen this happen too many times, on power inrush, where a branch has a rather large load. Burned up the electrical tape around the switch/duplex, and trips the breaker. Trouble shooting was a real bitch.
If you would, please keep me in the loop on this issue. But I do plan to buy the Eagle's tomorrow,as it's a new DIY project, and not terribly critical. Great for future though.
Regards,
Mitch
wheezer,> Whose review are you waiting for?
Anybody in AA who has experienced the Eagle 5252 in a system. Perhaps I'll have to wait for yours. Besides, I'll be away from my system for a few more weeks :-( so I'll have to wait, anyhoo...
Cheers
(hmmm... Duster and wheezer, sounds like an allergy :-D)
I don't forsee purchasing the P&Sduplex so I won't be able to help you there.
Sure does, and I got lots of em. A Duster would make wheezer feel just a tad under the weather.
Have you gotten into the DIY stuff?thanks again
REgards,
Mitch
wheezer,Sorry, I meant to say that I would like to know folk's opinion of the Eagle 5252's sonic performance since there's nothing in the archives. Yes, I do dig tweaking and some DIY but stop short of anything over my head...
Cheers
Na! Boldy go where no tweaker has gone. Be adventurous, It's no fun w/o the thrill of possibly blowing something up!
All kidding aside, the TA is a great place, there is always an inmate to bail ya out if you get stuck. You find your nitch and create within that nitch. This project was a pipe dream amongst a few inmates. Turns out Jon Risch has already addressed it. I'll let you know what I think,as I'll use em in my JR power strip and JR filter/SS/iso trannie.
Thanks again.

I spoke w/tech support and it's All brass, triple wipe, high impact nylon steel backstrap. Neutral screws appear to be nickel plated brass.compression ring on all four screws. 2 back feeds per screw.
AND anti-short plastic clip down cover on both L & N.
Nice work, hope it sounds as good as it seems. I've read that metal straps on the back degrade the sound. What do you think of that? Don't most spec, industrial, and HG outlets have straps?
Thanks Duster...
I don't see how the metal GROUND strap can degrade sound? They all have it on the higher grade ones and those rated for "in contact".
Does the P&S outlet have a strap? Do you know any other ways the P&S outlet is different than the Eagle 5252? Just what does this P&S oulet have/not have that blows other inexpensive outlets away? Consumers want to know. hehehe
Dunno, but you can shoot Gene W. an email or post as he has the P&S.You have my specs on the Eagle, so you'll be able to get a good comparison.

Mitch

wheezer, badman offered a good review of the Eagle Hospital grade outlet (I would bet money that the Eagle 5252 sounds more or less the same). Perhaps the darker sound is not present on the Industrial Grade 5252. (?)
