Inspired by this year's NHL playoffs, I yanked my Vibrapods and put hockey pucks under the feet of my CD player. Vocals, especially male vocals, have suddenly taken on more definition and stand out in bolder relief. I've also noticed a definite gain in overall clarity. The jury is still out, I think, but I have to admit it is interesting.
Follow Ups:
Hi,Sounds like you just shifted the resonance frequency up a bit further into the midrange. This is a variation of the "painting with tonal color" concept. If you enjoy it, that's one thing but I don't believe what you end up with is a "truer" picture from your CD player.
If $10 sounds like a good deal, I suggest a search (here in the Tweak forum) for "Econo" roller bearings which can be had for ~$1.25/set (!) and will easily demonstrate how much those hockey devices are pucking up the sound.
Happy Listening!

You know the ones that are heavier used to help develop your slap shot, do they work as well??
Bur did J-10 try pucks? I suppose he's never played hockey. Canadian cryo treated pucks are better, eh? We just leave them out on the pond for a couple days....go leafs, go.
Haven't tried pucks but the dr scholls foot rubs work nicely under the cd player and you always know where to find them when you need them...I can't use pucks because my poor battered leafs are about done.....actually, right now I have a sandbag on top of the cd player and it is floating on marbles in spoons held in small bottlecaps by modeling clay. Is there a cure for tweakaholics?
And people say audiophiles are nuts. Where do they get that stuff?

Don't you think it's crazy to spend many $K at CC or BB for the consumer junk-tronics they have in their "exclusive rooms"? And it's amazing what non-electronic devices help us toward the Holy Grail - which had rolled off highs - we call the Absolute Sound.By the way, how much do hockey pucks cost? I'm a Lakers fan myself. And, seriously, did you freeze them first? Isn't that often done with pucks?
... and work great, better than Vibrapods, IMO.
Has anyone tried them under floorstanding speakers? Vibrapods work, but what about pucks? Just curious...
I went nuts trying to use hockey pucks under my speakers. Without the spikes the speakers wobbled like crazy, With the spikes they wobbled like crazy.Maybe you need an absolutely perfectly flat floor....
So I put the pucks under my preamp, and cd player, and dvd player, and anything else they fit under....
