In Reply to: Need help finding large heatsinks! posted by Nick on November 23, 1999 at 15:21:33:
Nick,I'm in the electronics industry and we always use Aavid Thermal Technologies, Inc. heat sinks. Look at the link I've posted below.
Get yourself their catalog, it has a dizzying array of thermal management products but particularly you'll be interested in their engineering data and how to properly choose the correct heat sink. They have an enormous selection of standard extrusions that you should be able to get through distribution. They also make them available in anodized colors.
Good Luck!
Dave,Thanks for taking the time to reply. FYI, here is the email back from Aavid last week regarding my inquiry into 3 extrusions that would probably work for me.

As you can probably figure, these costs are prohibitive.
Thanks again for any help you can provide...
Nick,Maybe a phone call to Pass Labs and a discussion with them about their "standard" heat sinks they use for their amplifier products. They might be possibly adaptable to your need. Big heat sinks are fairly costly but maybe this will be more cost effective than buying low volume/min. order from Aavid.
Fan cooled is looking better by the minute! ;-)))
It's worth a try, anyway.
