I'm modding a Marantz CD63 and the analogue PSU caps are 470uf/35v Silmics. I have a couple of 1000uf Cerafines that I'd like to pop in to replace them with but they are only 25v.
The schematic states a voltage at the two capacitors of +20.8v and -20.8v. Is this sailing too close to the wind? How delicate are these things?P.S. The voltages will probably be a volt lower than those stated in the schematic as the transformer is set for 240v and we're on 230v here in the UK these days (I think???). I can change it to 240v by moving a link - do you think I should out of interest?

Thanks Steve and Gepetto,
I have some 1000uf Silmics that are 35v rated like the original 470uF Silmics. I'll use those. I know it's not a big increase in size but it should be an improvement. I wonder if a slightly bigger 'decent' cap like I have will be better/worse than much bigger 'ordinary' caps?. Money and space dictate against a huge audiophile cap! I really don't want them squashed up against the transformer.
Hi Glenn,
I wouldn't take the risk with 25V caps when the originals were 35V.
I simply used 6800uF/63V Elna (not a special grade cap) which i happen to have, for the C803 & C804 positions.Steve.
Most likely the voltage shown on the schematic is the average voltage not the repetitive peak value. Depending on the ripple on the PS rail you may be approaching the 25V. Also you should measure it not necessarily trust the schematic. If you exceed the voltage, electrolytics will spew their innards all over the rest of the insides. Messy. 35 volt caps are cheap insurance.
