I've recycled many transformers from computer monitors and TVs. Sone of them have hyphenated markings (eg, 512-170). Does that mean 512 ohms to 170 ohms ?Other come with two letters and a string of numbers. Usually they are of more specific construction and I don't believe I can re-use them easily.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like the manufactures part number. You want to look for things a little more obvious like "+40VA -4-VA", "24V CT" etc.
They are not power transformers but signal/coupling ones.
Oh. Not my day.
