For those curious: It isn't audio, but it is from a piece of equipment my friend uses that I am repairing. Any info on finding a source for this would also be of great help. Thanks in advance!
Follow Ups:
The part is a Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) manufactured by HV Components in NJ. The CKE P/N is Z480LA40A and is rated as follows:
Max AC volts = 480
Max DC volts = 640
Peak Current rating = 4500 amps
Typical capacitance value = 230pF
Energy dissipation = 105 joulesRegards, Richard
I figured it was a MOV, but all the others I've previously worked with have either been quite a bit smaller or a whole lot bigger. With the data you gave me, I can source one (plus some spares for next time :) ) and get my friend's saw stop functioning again!
lights from dimming when firing up a large amplifier, normally have one per leg, line and neutral, right after the line fuse.....
Actually, in this application, it controls line surges in the control unit for a great big saw.
