I've noticed for years that you need to get the humidity up in the
50% range, especially on cold winter days. I just use a cheap unit that I've had for years. You can also boil some water on a hot plate and see if that is enough. Might take some time.Another trick on cold-dry winter days is to spray some anti-static spray on the carpet around your equipment. Then you might want to use some Nordost ECO 3 to clean all your cables. You can even dampen a soft cloth like ScottPure wipers with ECO 3 and carefully clean your turntable platter and tonearm. I don't have a static problem for several days after doing this. Never have to use the Zerostat anymore.

That is underwater.
All I ask is for a chance to prove that money can't make me happy.
When you haven't so much money,
the risk of loosing a lot is less.
So started my interest in Audio.
I thought a pair of good speakers
was too expensive. I will build them.
So I got some litterature, Loudspeaker Cookbook.
Well I need a good Amplifier to drive them,
so I began study how to build amplifiers,
all kinds, from Phono-amps, to poweramps.
When you think you know what good component
is, then you want to use it. The details
make the whole. So that is why I still
after 15 years haven't build the Speakers or
The Amp, the one´s I want to Build.
Those high-quality components costs
a great deal of money. And it is hard to
settle for less when you know there is
more.
I listen to CDs, although I have a great deal
of LPs and EPs from the 'Golden 60-ies'
both Beatles, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens
and Bob Dylan. Bob Marleys 1st LP Catch A Fire.Have an Technics SL-PS7 cdplayer and
HarmanKardon HK650, integrated Amp.
And one homemade Speaker with one 4"Focal and one cheap 5"
driven by left and right out= mono, no tweeter and Bass-element,
no crossover. Only uses treble and bass-contol in Amp.
For stereo I use Philips SBC HP910, headphones.Have only been at Asylum for less 1 week.
What is ECO-3 made of? I imagine it would be much
cheaper to mix it myself.
There must be some substances that can neutralize
statics.
I live in Sweden, near Polar-circle. Maybe it
is dry here, we have below freezing-point 5-6month.
I have get an hydrometer to see. Thanks for the tricks!
I know of tnt-audio.com site. They have some
interesting schematics on amplifiers.
I will check it out.
The manufacturers will give away as little
informations as possible about their products.
Or we would put them out of business. What effect does low humidity have on
people, beside the effect on static
electricity in electronics?
I haven't really thought about it. My turntable always sounded better when I got the humidity up and eliminated the static electricity on cold/dry days. Been doing it for 30 years.I've tried tons of tweaks, wires, connectors, racks, feet, and whatever. Some things work and are worth the money and some don't. Not long ago I purchased a $600.00 AC cable for the power amp. It sounded better than the stock cable. Don't ask me why. But then a few weeks later, someone loaned me an AC cable they had made from scratch, and it beat the expensive cable. I sold the expensive cable on the internet for $400.00 used and had someone build me that cheap "kit cable". Just for kicks I go back to the original factory supplied AC cable. It still doesn't sound as good as the other two, but at least I don't have $600.00 invested in a power cable. I learned that lesson the hard way.
I once spent $100.00 for some turntable isolation feet. Later I found out I could build something just as good for $8.00. Now both sets of feet improved the sound over the original soft feet, but $100.00 is a bit much for feet. It wasn't mental as you and some others suggest. The feet tightened up the bass and gave me more detail. Anyone could hear the improvement.
Just because you spent a ton of money or you built something yourself, it doesn't mean you're hearing things that don't exist. That might be true with some but not with most. I've heard too many sonic changes or improvements that involved little money spent or little or no pride of ownership. I've also heard no improvements with tons of money spent. I heard ZERO improvements with some tuning dots a customer loaned me one time. He thought they were wonderful. Maybe in his system but not in mine. And, so it goes.........
I'm not sure what's in it, but it cost too much at $35.00 a bottle.
Try TNT's site. I think it is http://www.tnt-audio.com
Check out the tweek or DIY section. I read about something they said was similar at a much lower price. Be careful with the regular anti-static stuff you find at your local stores. Some of these have chemicals in them that could cause problems. The Nordost ECO 3 is said to be safe. For just spraying the carpet, use the cheap stuff from your local store. It's okay for that.
