Hello all inmates,i have built a passive source selector, and for lack of money have used a "alpha" brand motorized dual gang pot, which i selected as the best of the lot in the bin at the shop, with closely matched channels.
My question is how bad are these things, i mean they cost $8.95 Australian. I do have a kenwood pre amp (which i use for headphone amp) with an "alps" motorized pot in it, and was wondering if it was worth pulling it out and using it in my passive pre amp.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Why not try the shunt volume modification mentioned in the last issue of Valve at www.bottlehead.com It is virtually free and rules out bad effects from bad potentiometers. Not well known because industry insiders want your $$$$ whether it be for a better potentiometer or the grossly overpriced attenuators.
If the pot is one of the blue, square types, then, yes. They are of very quality. If you require, just the motorised pot, then I can assist. Just email me.Trevor
Trevor,i can stand your floggin your me amps in aus.hi-fi, but the asylum is totally advertising free. You have been warned.
Trevor, i work in a melbourne hi-fi shop, so i know where to get an alps pot, just not cheap.

Hello trevor,I admire your determination and aparent ability to shrug off any critisism.
I just fear that your becoming another john dunlavey. My search has gone well since i discovered we have an RS components branch here in melbourne.

You'll do better trying Farnell. They sell them for about AUS$88.00 each (+ freight). Of course, I could supply them for less than that. Pity you burned that bridge.Trevor
